Chemical & Non-Chemical based sunscreens
For us living in Dubai where we are exposed to strong sun on a daily basis, it is important that our skincare creams have SPF. It’s not easy to find non -chemical based sunscreens. Chemical based sunscreens have main ingredients like oxybenzone, octinoxate, avobenzone. These sunscreens are absorbed by the skin and then absorb UV rays, convert them into heat and release them. These chemical sunscreens are very easy to apply, with a comfortable emollient action, however they can easily irritate skin, especially sensitive skin.
And then we have non - chemical, physical sunscreens, they are not absorbed by skin well, they sit on top of it, reflecting the sunrays. The main ingredients are mineral titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. These sunscreens are a bit more difficult to apply, you need to spend a minute or more to blend them into the skin, until the white color disappears, but you can find tinted physical sunscreens now where the application is a bit easier. These sunscreens are less irritating for our skin.
I am a big fan of non-chemical sunscreens, as I am generally inclined to less aggressive ingredients, my beauty products need to be as clean as possible in term of the content of a product.
When it comes to sunscreen, I have a choice between foundation with SPF, if I wear makeup, or just a colorless sunscreen cream. Both need to be non - chemical based and with natural or organic ingredients as much as possible.
My #1 sunscreen for face when I wear make-up is the organic certified Probiotic Foundation by ESSE Probiotic Skincare with a SPF 30. It is available in 10 shades; the choice of colors is really great. It’s especially good for dry, normal and /or mature skin. I use it daily; shade # 6 or if I have a suntan then shade # 7, which is a cappuccino like color. All contain the mineral sunscreen ingredient, titanium dioxide.
For daily colorless sun protection I would choose the organic certified Sunscreen SPF 30 by ESSE Probiotic Skincare, which contains zinc oxide as the main Ingredient for sun protection.
